Frequently Asked Questions
Product & Configuration
What's the difference between the 2B, 3B, and 4B?
The number refers to how many drawer bays the cabinet has. The 2B is the smallest with two bays, the 3B has three bays, and the 4B is the largest with four bays and the full range of drawer options. Pick based on how much storage you need and how much space you have in your vehicle.
What's the difference between a small drawer, medium drawer, and utility case?
- Small drawer: Standard drawer size for general storage. Hand tools, parts, consumables, anything you want compartmentalised.
- Medium drawer: A deeper drawer (1.5 times the height of a small drawer). For bulkier tools and equipment that won’t fit in a small drawer. Only available in the 3B and 4B.
- Utility case: A sheet metal tray that holds a removable plastic case with a handle, snap-latched lid, and internal dividers. Slide the case out, carry it to the job, bring it back. Good for kits you take to specific jobs and for organisation and management of small components.
Can I mix and match drawer types in one cabinet?
Yes, that’s the point of the modular system. The product page for each cabinet shows the configuration options available for that size.
Can I change my configuration later?
The cabinet shell is fixed, but drawers and utility cases can be swapped between bays of the same size. If you want to upgrade your setup later, you can contact us to buy additional drawers or utility cases separately.
Will it fit in my ute or van?
Overall case dimensions are listed on each product page. Measure your tray or van floor before ordering. If you’re unsure whether it will fit your specific vehicle, contact us directly and we’ll help you work it out.
Are the drawers lockable?
The drawer system uses a lockable slam latch on the small and medium drawers. They’re secure enough for everyday use, but worth knowing the limitations: the drawers don’t have a lid, so a determined thief could remove the drawer above a locked drawer and access the contents from above. To maximise security, either keep your valuables in the top drawer of the cabinet, or lock all drawers. Better yet, secure the whole vehicle or store the cabinet inside a lockable canopy.
The utility cases are not lockable. They use a drop-latch that keeps the tray closed during transit but doesn’t provide security against theft.
What weight can the drawers hold?
Drawers are built for real tradie use, not light-duty home storage. We don’t publish specific weight ratings because real-world load capacity depends on how the cabinet is mounted and used. If you’ve got a particular use case you’re unsure about, contact us with the details and we’ll help you work it out.
Will the drawers open on rough roads?
No. The latch system is specifically designed to stay shut under vibration and impact. The drawer system has been tested in real working vehicles on real Australian roads, including unsealed surfaces.
Are the drawers weatherproof?
No. Tek-Cases are designed for use inside vehicles, canopies, or covered tray setups. The drawers are not sealed against rain, dust, or water spray. If your cabinet is exposed to weather, the contents will get wet. For open trays without a canopy or cover, consider weatherproof bagging or containers for anything moisture-sensitive (electronics, paperwork, certain consumables).
The steel cabinet itself is powder coated and, along with its components, built to handle Australian conditions, but it’s not designed to be your primary weather barrier – that’s what your canopy or tray cover is for.
Ordering & Shipping
How long does shipping take?
We stock common configurations and ship within 1-2 weeks. Less common drawer combinations are manufactured on demand and may take up to 6 weeks before shipping. You’ll receive confirmation of your expected ship date within 24 hours of placing your order.
Where do you ship to?
Australia-wide. Shipping cost and time depends on your location. Remote and regional areas may take longer and cost more. Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on your address.
Can I pick up from your warehouse?
Yes, local pickup is available from our Queensland warehouse. Select pickup at checkout and we’ll let you know when your order is ready.
Do you offer trade or bulk pricing?
For orders of three or more cabinets, contact us directly for pricing. We can also work with fleet operators and trade businesses on volume orders.
What payment methods do you accept?
All major credit cards and bank transfer. Tax invoices are provided for all orders.
Can I cancel or modify my order?
Yes, contact us as soon as possible. If your cabinet hasn’t started manufacturing or shipping, we can usually modify or cancel without issue. Once manufacturing has started on a made-to-order configuration, changes may incur additional cost.
Assembly & Installation
Do I need to assemble it myself?
Yes. We ship cabinets as partially assembled pre-fabricated components. This keeps shipping costs down and lets us offer better pricing than fitout companies who include installation. Assembly takes 30-60 minutes depending on cabinet size, using basic hand tools.
What tools do I need for assembly?
A socket set or spanner set, a Phillips head screwdriver, and ideally a second person to help hold things steady. That’s it. No welding, drilling, or specialist tools required.
How do I mount it in my vehicle?
The cabinet has pre-drilled mounting holes in the base for securing it to your vehicle’s tray, floor, or canopy frame. The specific method depends on your vehicle and tray type: bolts through the tray, coach screws into timber, rivnuts into steel, etc.
Mounting hardware is not included. We can’t supply universal mounting hardware because every ute, van, and canopy is different. Once you know your mounting surface and method, grab the appropriate bolts, washers, and nuts from any hardware store.
Can I fit it inside a canopy?
Yes, many customers fit cabinets inside canopies. Check internal canopy dimensions against the cabinet specifications. The cabinet must be securely mounted to the canopy frame or vehicle tray.
Do I need to weld or modify my tray?
No. The cabinet bolts to mounting points on your tray or canopy. If your tray doesn’t have suitable mounting points, you may need to drill mounting holes, but no welding or major modification is required.
Can I take it out and move it to a new vehicle?
Yes. Unbolt the mounting hardware and the cabinet comes out as a complete unit. Mounting in the new vehicle requires new mounting holes or use of existing mounting points.
Product & Configuration
What's the warranty?
See warranty page here.
What if my cabinet arrives damaged?
Contact us within seven days of delivery with photos. We’ll arrange replacement or repair. Freight damage is rare but it happens. Keep the packaging until you’ve inspected the cabinet.
What's the powder coat finish?
Standard durable powder coat in silver grey. Suited to outdoor use and resistant to scratches and corrosion in normal conditions. Other colours may be available on request for larger orders.
What if a drawer or part breaks?
Replacement drawers, runners, and hardware can be purchased separately. Contact us with details and we’ll sort you out.
How long should it last?
Built to last the life of multiple vehicles with reasonable use. Heavy-duty steel construction, quality runners, no plastic structural components. Treat it well and it should outlast your current ute. More fragile parts prone to wear, can be replaced, contact us.

Who makes Tek-Cases?
Tek Manufacturing Group Pty Ltd, trading as Tek-Case. Australian-owned, designed by our team in Queensland, manufactured by Australian fabrication partners. We’re a small operation focused on getting the product right rather than scaling rapidly.
Where are you based?
Warwick, Queensland, Australia.
Why are you cheaper than fleet fitout companies?
We sell direct to you. No middleman, no installation team, no project management overhead, no fitout shop markup. You buy the cabinet, we ship it, you install it. The savings come back to you.
Why are you more expensive than imported toolboxes?
We use heavier gauge steel, better runners, and proper Australian manufacturing. Our cabinets are designed for tradies who use their gear hard, travel on dirt roads, and need their gear to last. If your needs are met by a $200 plastic toolbox, we’re not the right fit.
Can I see a cabinet in person before buying?
We don’t have a retail showroom. If you’re in southeast Queensland and want to see one, contact us and we’ll work something out. Otherwise, the product pages include detailed renders and specifications.
Do you take feedback?
Yes, actively. We’re a small team and customer feedback directly shapes product development. If you’ve got suggestions, complaints, or ideas, send them through. Real input from actual tradies is more valuable than market research.
